Article: U.S. egg producers sued for alleged price fixing

U.S. egg producers sued for alleged price fixingBy Reuters on September 26, 2008

A New York state restaurant has sued 13 major U.S. egg producers and three egg trade groups, contending they schemed to artificially fix prices over the past eight years by reducing the supply of eggs. The lawsuit, which seeks class-action status, comes days after the U.S. Department of Justice said it is looking into possible antitrust violations in the egg products industry.

Action Alert: Demand Truth-in-Labeling on Egg Cartons

Demand Truth-in-Labeling on Egg CartonsThe U.S. egg industry is responsible for cruelly confining nearly 300 million hens in wire battery cages so small, they can barely move—and to make matters worse, it’s also deceiving consumers about that abuse. The use of animal welfare claims on egg cartons is not federally regulated, created a labeling landscape that is rife with misleading or exaggerated claims.

That’s why COK co-filed a federal rule-making petition calling upon the Food and Drug Administration to mandate production-method labeling on cartons, including the clear identification of "Eggs from Caged Hens." You can help protect hens and consumers by submitting comments in support of this petition, which is still pending.

Please demand truth in labeling today!
