COK in the News: Egg Industry Comes Under Fire Again

The egg industry is currently fighting tooth and nail a federal rule-making petition being reviewed by the Food & Drug Administration that would mandate production-method labeling on egg cartons that would clearly identify “eggs from caged hens.”
Animal welfare claims on egg cartons are currently unregulated in the United States, enabling the United Egg Producers (UEP) to mislead consumers with exaggerated and false claims, according to a statement by Erica Meier, executive director of Compassion Over Killing.
